Yorktown Cable TV Program Explores Con Edison Tree Cutting

As part of his weekly cable TV interview program 30MINUTES, Dr. Daniel Lefkowitz has recently broadcast a program focusing on the Con Edison tree cutting situation. This program is now available on YouTube. The three links are above. Since late last year, residents and public officials from Yonkers to Yorktown have condemned Con Edison’s vegetation management practices on its electric transmission line right of way property (ROW). The current NYS PSC policy is to clear cut all vegetation across the entire width of the ROW resulting in significant adverse environmental, public health, and property value impacts. On March 1, 2010, the Westchester County Board of Legislators unanimously passed a resolution calling for a moratorium on Con Edison’s vegetation management practices. On March 2, 2010, the Yorktown Town Board passed a similar resolution. Other municipalities that have also unanimously passed similar moratorium request resolutions include Yonkers, Greenburgh, and Pleasantville. Learn more about these issues and why the LORAX working group was formed.
